The Department of Pathology at LNMC is a multidisciplinary department consisting of Histopathology, Microbiology and Clinical Pathology. The Medical College Section consists of fully equipped and air-conditioned laboratories, a large museum with a wide range of mounted pathology specimens, a teaching microscope with attached camera and large LCD screen, numerous binocular microscopes for students as well as several tutorial rooms for small group teachings.

Undergraduate Teaching

Qualified teaching faculty with vast experience and training, for each subspecialty is present. Undergraduate teaching of Pathology is in the form of lectures, practical sessions and small group tutorials, as per the guidelines of Pakistan Medical and Dental College (PMDC). In addition, one third extra curriculum is added to the syllabus in order to prepare students for international qualifying exams. Regular assessment of the students is carried out. Purpose built separate laboratories are available for practical demonstrations. Tutorial sessions are strongly encouraged to reinforce knowledge.

Continuous assessment of the students is performed at regular intervals and a close eye is kept on their performance throughout the year.

The clinical lab is ISO 9001:2008 certified and participates in EQA programs by College of American Pathologists, to assure quality. Equipped with high-tech latest equipments and qualified experienced staff, it handles more than a million specimens every year and works round the clock to serve as a learning site for students.

Research

Research is actively encouraged and conducted with participation in national and international conferences, paper presentations as well as publications in reputable local and international journals. Medical students are guided and assigned research topics and encouraged to write research papers and make presentations in conferences. Several students have secured research positions in US on the basis of their published work.

Postgraduate training is an integral part of the department, and so far 26 trainees have cleared their FCPS in various disciplines of Pathology. Success rate of the FCPS trainees is over 98%.
