The subject of Anatomy is one of the core basic science subjects and is taught by highly qualified and experienced faculty at LNMC. The department of Anatomy runs the undergraduate integrated medical curriculum of Jinnah Sind Medical University (JSMU) and other medical allied programmes.

The department has a spacious air conditioned museum and dissection hall with facility for cadaveric dissection. The department has large collection of models of gross anatomy, neuroanatomy, embryology and other regions of the body and also has a substantial collection of original pre-dissected specimens and bones to help the students understand the human structure. A Digital Anatomy Library with a large collection of anatomy and embryology teaching videos is also present in the department.

The histology lab is equipped with the latest multi headed and binocular microscopes with sufficient numbers of slides of various tissues and organs. Multimedia with camera and photomicrography is available for the students to observe slides through LED monitors.

Undergraduate Teaching

The teaching methodology adopted is a combination of newer learning methods like Self-Directed Learning, Large Group Interactive Sessions (LGIS), Small Group Discussions, (SGD) & Case-based learning (CBL). In addition to this, the students are involved in Hands on dissection of organs, structured histology practicals, E-learning activities via Edmodo and Radiologic & cross sectional anatomy using different modalities like ultrasound, CT scan & MRI. This is the first department of Liaquat National Medical College to start innovative teaching strategies like exposure to Genetic lab to understand principles of Genetics in context to developmental anatomy and Team Based learning which is a student centred, small group teaching tool where students organize into small teams to explore the pre-assigned topics and themes.

The department conducts regular formative assessments in the form of MCQs and OSPEs.

Postgraduate Teaching

The department is recognized by College of Physicians and Surgeons of Pakistan CPSP for FCPS training in Anatomy.

Research

The department is actively involved in research activities and regular journal club meetings every two weeks and is involved in experimental animal studies at animal house LNH&MC. The department also conducts research projects in collaboration with Radiology and other departments of Liaquat National Hospital & Medical College.
