The Department of Physiology offers a congenial, comfortable and well equipped working environment for students. Modern audio-visual equipment and latest teaching aids are used for educational purpose. The most advanced equipment and devices for practical physiology are available including the Power Lab which is a data acquisition system with sophisticated attachments. Its typical applications include teaching and research involving both human and animal physiology.
The department offers undergraduate as well as postgraduate (FCPS Physiology) training programmes. In addition to the Jinnah Sind Medical University JSMU curriculum, the department also incorporates additional objective type questions as one third curriculum. This enables students to have a better understanding of applied physiology, exercise physiology and the physiology of nutrition and make them better equipped to deal with in house but international exams too.
The teaching strategies include formal lectures, tutorials, small groups’ discussions, practicals, power point presentations, role plays and case based learning sessions to improve students’ understanding of the basics as well as the clinical aspects of the subject comprehensively. The department performs assessment and evaluation routinely to help prepare the students for professional examinations providing encouraging environment to nurture their capabilities.

The department regularly conducts journal club to enhance the research skills of the faculty. The faculty constantly conducts researches involving students which are published in reputable scientific journals recognized by the higher Education Commission HEC and the Pakistan Medical and Dental College PMDC.
